Winnie Has a Hunny Pot (Papa Was a Rollin' Stone, Norman Whitfield / Barrett Strong)

After I posted my Eeyore song to the tune of My Girl on Amiright.com, Dan Creeden suggested I try Winnie Has a Hunny Pot to the tune of Papa Was a Rollin' Stone. So I did!

Winnie Has a Hunny Pot

Throughout the whole Hundred Acres,
There are both givers and takers, yes there are.
Well, maybe this song can provide a guide, yeah.
Your pocketbook will not get bigger
If you’ve decided to hang out with Tigger.
Tigger’s gonna team up with Roo to leech off of you.

If Pooh has hunny there, he’ll share some.
Winnie has a hunny pot.
Sometimes it’s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.
Yeah, Winnie has a hunny pot.
Sometimes it‘s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.

Well, well...

Now, Rabbit likes to lock up his tools
To keep those forest-dwelling fools from his stuff.
And Rabbit once let Winnie have a small smack’rel of hunny,
But it seems a small smack’rel just wasn’t enough.
A sticky plight.
Now the bear’s never welcome when it comes time for breakfast.
Rabbit has been convinced such kindness is reckless.
Bunny wised up; his hunny’s out of sight in his home.

But go ask the bear. He’ll share.
Winnie has a hunny pot.
Sometimes it‘s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.
Yes, fortunately, Winnie has a hunny pot.
Sometimes it‘s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.

Now, now, now...

Now Piglet’s is known in the woodland for presenting balloons.
Owl distributes stories in the afternoons;
Feathered fellow does not realize folks roll their eyes.
Well Eeyore, that old donkey sure does a lot of grousing
But once helped the bird to secure decent housing.
It belonged to somebody else, but hey, I won’t tell.

Pooh Bear, he’s always such a generous guy to his friends.
Winnie has a hunny pot. He keeps it well.
Sometimes it‘s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.
Winnie has a hunny pot.
Sometimes it‘s filled up, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.
I said that Winnie has a hunny pot.
Well, sometimes it’s full, and sometimes it’s not.
His tummy’s wide; Pooh eats hunny quite a lot.
Winnie. Oh, Winnie. Winnie has a hunny pot.

Hunny in the Jar (Gilgarra Mountain, Traditional)

I recently listened to Gilgarra Mountain, Peter Yarrow's version of the Irish folk song Whiskey in the Jar, and the more I thought about it, the more I couldn't resist giving the beleaguered Rabbit a wistful narrative of his own. And since the very American Peter did it, Rabbit, too, has to adopt a bit of a brogue for this one. Enjoy!

Hunny in the Jar

As I was a-makin' meself breakfast one mornin',
I spotted Pooh Bear; he had come callin' with no warnin'.
First I drew the curtains; I hoped I could deceive him,
But the knock on me door betrayed to me he wasn't leavin'.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

He counted on me bein' a benevolent old bunny;
I grabbed me door to lock it and protect me precious hunny.
"There's no one home," I called in a voice all light and breezy,
For I figured foolin' Bears of Little Brain would be so easy.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

I stood there in me kitchen, afraid of what was comin'.
That bear was undeterred, seekin' smackerels of somethin',
And so he grasped the doorknob. Oh, I wish I would have fought 'im;
How could I have known he'd block my doorway with his bottom?

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

Pooh Bear was burly enough upon arrivin',
And once he had me hunny, his pot-belly was thrivin'.
At last he finished eatin', and he got up from the table,
But alas, I was forsaken; departure was disabled.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

Me house became a jail. I'll admit I was frightened,
For every day that bear in me door seemed to tighten.
Oh, how desperately I wished that he wasn't quite so round;
He'd knock out the wall if he gained one more pound.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

I waited for another, that boy so wise and charmin'.
I frantically explained that I found this quite alarmin'.
He promised he would go and get some help. He wasn't lyin',
And we tugged and tugged that bear until he finally went flyin'.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

There's some takes delight in the haycorns and the thistles
And some takes delight in the chummy hums and whistles.
But I takes delight in me hunny, now securely
Locked up, nice and safe from the bears who visit early.

Oh, I won't get very far,
For Pooh is bound to know,
Yes, Pooh is bound to know
There's hunny in the jar.

Goin' to See Pooh (Goin' to the Zoo, Tom Paxton)

I actually managed to mention all ten major characters in this one. Here's one about Pooh and his friends to the tune of Goin' to the Zoo.

Goin' to See Pooh

Piglet's gonna go visit Pooh tomorrow,
Pooh tomorrow, Pooh tomorrow.
Piglet's gonna go visit Pooh tomorrow,
And they will play all day.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

They see grinning Tigger, his long tail bouncin',
Great big stripes and his long tail bouncin',
Only one like him with his long tail bouncin',
And they will play all day.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

Gopher's nearby and he's dig, dig, diggin',
Wearin' a helmet, dig, dig, diggin',
If they fall in that hole he's diggin',
Then they can't play all day!

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

There's a big black cloud over gloomy old Eeyore.
His tail is gone again, poor gloomy old Eeyore.
When they find it for gloomy old Eeyore,
Then they can play all day.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

Owl flies in the sky while yak, yak, yakkin',
Usin' big words and yak, yak, yakkin'
Soarin' over Rabbit, yak, yak, yakkin'
Until they sneak away.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

Well, they played all day, and Pooh's gettin' hungry.
Rumbly in his tumbly, he's hun, hun, hungry.
Wants some hunny cuz he's hun, hun, hungry.
He asks his friend to stay.

He went to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.
So did Roo, Roo, Roo.
Kanga too, too, too.
They went to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

Christopher is off to see Pooh tomorrow,
Pooh tomorrow, Pooh tomorrow.
Christopher is off to see Pooh tomorrow,
And they can play all day.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh,
And Kanga and Roo, Roo, Roo
Might stop over too, too, too.
He's goin' to see Pooh, Pooh, Pooh.

Eeyore (My Girl, Smokey Robinson / Ronald White)

Here's a little ode to that perpetually gloomy, sometimes sardonic donkey who lives in the Hundred Acre Wood, to the tune of My Girl.

Eeyore

He's got rain clouds
On a sunny day.
When it's bright outside,
His world is cold and gray.

Well, I guess you'd say,
"Who's the one who feels this way?"
Eeyore. (Eeyore, Eeyore)
Talkin' 'bout Eeyore. (Eeyore)

He does not like honey.
He craves solitude,
And you would not be wrong
If you said he was rude.

Well, I guess you'd say,
"Who's the one who feels this way?"
Eeyore. (Eeyore, Eeyore)
Talkin' 'bout Eeyore. (Eeyore)

Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Oooooh...

All he needs is thistles,
His tiny shack
And, whenever it falls off him,
The tail on his back.

Well, I guess you'd say,
"Who's the one who feels this way?"
Eeyore. (Eeyore, Eeyore)
Talkin' 'bout Eeyore. (Eeyore)

Talkin' 'bout Eeyore.
He's got rain clouds on a sunny day.
Poor Eeyore.
But I still love him anyway. He's Eeyore...

Christopher Robin (Rockin' Robin, Leon Rene)

Have I ever mentioned that when I was younger, I had a crush on Christopher Robin? What a perfect way to spend the summer, chillin' with Christopher Robin and Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood. Here's an ode to Pooh's best buddy to the tune of Rockin' Robin.

Christopher Robin

He plays in the woodland all day long.
Merrily, the bear and he make up a song.
When Pooh has a craving for something sweet,
He provides the bear with his favorite treat.

He's Chris Robin. (Sweet, sweet as can be.)
He's Chris Robin. (Sweet, sweet as can be.)
Christopher Robin is the best friend that a bear could have.

I would like to follow both of them and see
What they do en route to the hunny tree.
The day is hot. Their pace is slow.
He holds Pooh's paw wherever they go.

He's Chris Robin. (Sweet, sweet as can be.)
He's Chris Robin. (Sweet, sweet as can be.)
Christopher Robin is the best friend that a bear could have.

If he would just come and take me by the hand,
I could spend the day in his enchanted land.
If gaily doing nothing is his daily goal,
Then Christopher would find in me a kindred soul.

I'm Gonna Love Pooh Forever (Forever and Ever Amen, Randy Travis)

When my brother came home tonight, he was singing one of my favorite country songs, Forever and Ever, Amen. I found this rather curious, as he generally despises country music, though I think he's always had a soft spot for that particular tune. I certainly do, at any rate, and his second time through the chorus I decided I needed to hi-jack it for my favorite Disnified bear...

I'm Gonna Love Pooh Forever

You may think that Pooh Bear is foolish,
A bear of a low pedigree.
You may ask me why when discovering I
Paint him on my wall and watch him on my TV.
You may ask why I am willing
To love one who seems so unwise.
Well, since I was five, this love has survived;
It certainly isn't something I would disguise.

Believe me, I'm gonna love Pooh forever,
Forever and ever amen.
As long as that bear finds his hunny pot is empty
And Christopher Robin fills it up for him again,
I would wander the forests of England
For a glimpse of my stuffed-with-fluff friend.
I'll love Pooh forever, forever and ever,
Forever and ever amen.

They say Pooh has a round sort of body,
Though he does exercises each day.
I tell ya, I don't care, he's such a lovable bear
If he were a blimp, well, I'd love him anyway.
They say Pooh's addled wits are contagious.
He will make ya forget things you knew.
Well, it's easy to see that it's happenin' to me.
I've already forgotten every teddy but Pooh.

Believe me, I'm gonna love Pooh forever,
Forever and ever amen.
As long as that bear finds his hunny pot is empty
And Christopher Robin fills it up for him again,
I would wander the forests of England,
Searching for him until the day's end.
I'll love Pooh forever, forever and ever,
Forever and ever amen.
